5 Amazing Psychological Tricks To Get People To Do What You Want

Many books have been written about our human nature, primarily because we are not your average mammals, but rather quite complex beings. While there are some obvious human behavior patterns, most of us are unaware that there are numerous ways to persuade people to do what you want - without them even realizing it.

Here are 5 amazing psychological tricks to get people to do what you want:-

1. Use a "decoy" option to entice people to buy your product:-

The decoy effect is defined as the phenomenon in which consumers change their preference between two options when presented with a third option that is "asymmetrically dominated" – the "decoy." People are influenced by the decoy effect to spend and buy more than they need. When a decoy option is effectively presented, we tend to make decisions based on what appears to be the best choice rather than which option best meets our needs.

2. To persuade people to change their behavior, use nouns instead of verbs:-

When attempting to persuade people to do something, try using nouns rather than verbs. Invoke a sense of belonging to a group, and people are much more likely to comply with your request.

Gregory Walton at Stanford occasionally asked in a voting survey, "How important is it to you to be a voter in tomorrow's election?" versus "How important is it to you to be a voter in tomorrow's election?"

This one difference (verb vs. noun) in a single question accounted for an 11% increase in voter turnout when the noun (be a voter) was used instead of the verb (to vote). Verbs are not as powerful as nouns when it comes to changing behavior.

3. Watching-eye effect:-

According to the watching-eye effect, people behave more altruistically and exhibit less antisocial behavior in the presence of images of eyes because these images imply that they are being watched. They reflect that our actions are being observed and noted, even if only through depictions of eyes.

Displaying images of eyes causes people to behave more pro-socially in a variety of situations. However, it is unclear whether eyes work by making people more pro-social in general or making them more likely to conform to local norms.

4. Help someone with something they require so that they feel obligated to return the favor:-

Do you expect someone to repay you when you do them a favor? .... According to this powerful psychological principle, The Rule of Obligation, also known as "reciprocity," states that when others do something for us, we feel a strong need, even a push, to return the favor. Returning the favor relieves us of the obligation created by the first good deed.

Similarly, if you give someone something, the recipient will feel obligated to return the favor. It makes no difference whether you give someone a gift, a kind gesture, or a material possession.

5. Tweak or change the environment to stimulate people to be less selfish:-

"Priming" is a powerful psychological phenomenon. Priming uses a stimulus, such as a word, image, or action, to influence someone's behavior. Studies have shown that reading words like cautious or leisurely can prime someone to walk more slowly. We can also train someone to be more polite by having them read words like a patient, polite, and respectful.

You can use this psychological phenomenon during bargaining with someone; consider meeting in a coffee shop rather than a conference room, so your partner is less likely to be aggressive.
